Parliament, UNDP to sign agreement.
Monday, February 6 2012
THE PARLIAMENT and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will sign a US$432,066 agreement at Tower D of the Port-of-Spain International Waterfront Centre, today.
A statement issued by the Parliament indicated that through this agreement, the UNDP will collaborate with the Parliament in strengthening the legislative functions of Parliament, strengthening Parliament’s communications and outreach initiatives, establishing Parliament as an independent entity and improving parliamentary scrutiny.
The agreement will be signed by House Speaker Wade Mark, Senate President Timothy Hamel-Smith and UNDP Resident Representative Dr Marcia de Castro.
The Senate sits at 1.30 pm on Tuesday to continue debate on the DNA Bill 2011. Also at that sitting, Opposition Senator Fitzgerald Hinds will ask National Security Minister Brigadier John Sandy to indicate how many persons were reported missing between October 1, 2010 and July 31, 2011. Hinds will also ask Sandy to say what measures are being taken to protect other citizens from this “trauma generating phenomenon.”
