The decomposing body of a woman found in a dasheen field in Macoya yesterday, remains unidentified.
The victim was found with a plastic bag tied over her head, leading investigators to believe she was strangled to death.
At about 2.30 pm yesterday, officers at the Tunapuna Police Station received an anonymous call that a body had been spotted lying along a track off Macoya Extension Road.
A party of officers led by ASP Hosein, Insp Philip, Sgt Sinanan and Cpl Bernard visited the site, and discovered the woman’s body which was clad in a maroon t-shirt and blue three-quarter pants.
The woman, who is of mixed descent, was said to be wearing gold anklets, but had no other visible marks of violence.
However, officers said due to the state of decomposition, it was hard to tell if there were any other signs of physical violence.
Officers are now appealing to members of the public for help in identifying the body.
When Newsday visited the area yesterday, residents living nearby declined to speak.
The discovery of the body pushed the murder toll to 40 for the year so far.
