A MAN charged with removing a body to prevent the lawful apprehension of a person was committed to stand trial yesterday at the next sitting of the High Court.

Ravi Boodoo, of Santa Cruz, was charged with moving the body of his friend Ronald Samlal from Santa Cruz (where police believe he was killed), to the North Coast Road, where Samlal’s body was discovered over a precipice.

Boodoo, who was represented by defence counsel Theodore Guerra, SC, was granted $150,000 bail.

Samlal, 42, of Eastern Main Road, San Juan, was discovered on August 31, 2007, one day after he was reported missing.

Reports stated that Samlal, the owner of a used car business, left his home on August 30, 2007, to conduct business at Chaguanas, but failed to return home.

Relatives received a call later that night, demanding $500,000 for his safe release.

Members of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad were called in and a search started.

A passerby found his body, which bore gun shot wounds.
