Details: Little Phillip Jones was abducted from the front yard of his home on July 11, 1980 and carried to an abandoned house by his captors. A ransom note demanding $30,000 was signed by the group “Black Friday” and delivered to the home. When it became obvious by the police presence around the home and the place where the ransom money was to be dropped, that the family had sought police assistance, one of the abductors became so enraged that he murdered the child. Eventually another man was arrested, found guilty and sentenced to death on July 15, 1982. The death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in 1994, In 2004, one of the three, an ex-convict, came forward and wrote a long letter confessing that an innocent man had been punished and that he was one of the three men who had kidnapped and killed the baby.
